Shelton Auditorium is the intimate room of the Butler Arts & Events Center, a nearly 400-seat Greek-style theatre on Butler University's South Campus in Indianapolis — the former Christian Theological Seminary campus. Designed by Edward Larrabee Barnes and opened in 1966, the mid-century "pre-Gothic" hall pairs steep stadium seating with acoustics good enough for chamber music, which makes it Butler Arts' room for touring standup, singer-songwriters, resident theatre and the university's lecture and visiting-writers series. Recent and upcoming comedy includes Jessica Kirson, KevOnStage, Irene Tu, David Nihill and Adam Carolla, alongside Joan Osborne, the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and Southbank Theatre Company. Parking is free in the surface lots off West 42nd Street and Haughey Avenue, every patron needs a ticket regardless of age, and wheelchair-accessible seating is sold online or through the Clowes Hall box office.
