At over 100 years old and located in Seattle's U-District just blocks from the University of Washington, the Neptune Theatre is a nautical-themed former movie palace that Seattle Theatre Group converted into a live performance venue in 2011. The flexible main floor takes freestanding padded chairs for seated comedy and film engagements and clears for standing general admission on concert nights, which — with the balcony above — gives the room an approximate capacity of 700 to 1,000. STG programs the Neptune as its most eclectic house and its designated comedy room: touring standup from the likes of Maria Bamford, Ron Funches, Brian Posehn, Phoebe Robinson, Michael Kosta and Christopher Titus, plus live podcasts, independent film, lectures, and music across every genre. The annual Rocky Horror Picture Show screening is a holdover from the theatre's cinema days.
