Opened in 1928 as a Paramount Pictures movie palace and vaudeville house, the Paramount is the 2,807-seat landmark at 9th and Pine in downtown Seattle, operated by the nonprofit Seattle Theatre Group alongside its sister rooms the Moore and the Neptune. Designed by Chicago's Rapp & Rapp and restored in the 1990s after Ida Cole bought the building, the gilded house still runs its original Wurlitzer pipe organ for the long-running Silent Movie Mondays series. Today it is the city's big room for Broadway touring productions, concerts, dance and arena-scale touring standup - upcoming bills include Jim Gaffigan, Josh Johnson's Comedy Band Camp and Franco Escamilla. Every patron needs a ticket regardless of age and babes in arms are not admitted; the historic building has no elevator, so the balcony levels are reached by stairs, while accessible seating and companion seats are available on the main floor.
