The San Diego Civic Theatre is a 2,967-seat performing arts house in downtown San Diego, on Third Avenue at B Street alongside the Civic Center plaza. It opened in January 1965 with the San Diego Symphony, designed by influential local modernist architect Lloyd Ruocco as part of the downtown Civic Center project, and is the region's largest and most-attended performing arts venue. It is operated by San Diego Theatres, the nonprofit that also runs the historic Balboa Theatre in the Gaslamp Quarter, and is home to San Diego Opera and Broadway San Diego while hosting presentations by La Jolla Music Society, Goldenvoice, Live Nation, Nederlander Concerts and AEG Presents. Its stage has carried Frank Sinatra, Bob Dylan, Diana Ross, Tony Bennett, Carole King, Bruce Springsteen, Renee Fleming, Robin Williams, Jerry Seinfeld and Conan O'Brien, and touring standup still books here regularly — upcoming bills include Jo Koy, Seth Meyers, Ali Wong and Josh Johnson. The theatre is cashless, offers mobility aid-accessible seating and restrooms plus audio assistance systems, and sits beside the Evan V. Jones Parkade.
