Royal Oak Music Theatre is a 1,700-capacity art-deco theatre at 318 W Fourth Street in downtown Royal Oak, and the Detroit area's preeminent club-style concert room. It opened in 1928 as the Kunsky Royal Oak, a lavishly appointed movie palace, moved to live entertainment in 1978, was rescued from obscurity by Worldwide Entertainment in 2004 and has been an AEG Presents room since 2007. There is no permanent seating: the main floor is general-admission standing for most shows (sections A-D when a tour seats it) with a reserved balcony above (sections E-F, stairs only). The calendar mixes national touring music with a steady run of big-room standup - Aziz Ansari, Amy Schumer and Bill Burr have all played here, and upcoming bills include Akaash Singh, Robby Hoffman, Marc Maron, Leslie Jones, Charlie Berens, Ryan Hamilton and Henry Cho. All patrons need a ticket regardless of age; walk-through metal detectors are in use at every event and there is no re-entry.
