Baltimore's largest seated theatre, open since 1894 — first as The Music Hall, then the Lyric Opera House, and today simply The Lyric. A National Register landmark on West Mount Royal Avenue, designed to evoke the acoustically-tuned European music halls of the late 19th century and now paired with a modern sound, lighting and production rig. It books across the board: touring standup, concerts, musicals, dance, family shows and speaker nights. Aretha Franklin, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Ringo Starr, Prince, Diana Ross, the Grateful Dead, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, the Metropolitan Opera, Robin Williams and Chris Rock have all played the stage — and Baltimore's own Stavros Halkias is the top-selling comedian in the building's history, with 12 headline performances and more than 25,000 tickets sold. The current comedy slate runs from Jerry Seinfeld and Ron White to Taylor Tomlinson, Jo Koy, Vir Das, John Cleese, Matt McCusker and Ari Matti.
