The Velma V. Morrison Center for the Performing Arts is Boise's largest performance venue — a 2,002-seat hall on the Boise State University campus beside the Boise River, whose ten-story stage house is a fixture of the downtown skyline. It opened in April 1984, the realization of a lifelong dream of Harry W. Morrison and championed by his widow, Velma. The Center is the city's main stop for touring Broadway (the Zions Bank Broadway in Boise season), national standup and comedy — Chelsea Handler, Taylor Tomlinson, Killers of Kill Tony, Ryan Hamilton, Henry Cho, Jimmy Failla, Justin Willman — and author talks, alongside resident companies: the Boise Philharmonic, Ballet Idaho, and Boise State's music and theatre departments. The building also houses the 210-seat Danny Peterson Theatre and a 200-seat Recital Hall. Elevators reach all three floors, all public restrooms are wheelchair accessible, and Assistive Listening is free in the Main Hall.
