Opened on Christmas Day 1929 and originally conceived as a grand headquarters for Atlanta's Shriners, the Fox Theatre is a 4,665-seat National Historic Landmark at the corner of Peachtree and Ponce in Midtown. Its Moorish-and-Egyptian fantasia of an interior drew on Spain's Alhambra and Egypt's Temple of Karnak, and the building was rescued from demolition by the 1974 'Save the Fox' campaign. Today the Fox hosts more than 200 performances a year: touring Broadway (Hamilton, Wicked, Beetlejuice), concerts, classic-film screenings with the house's Mighty Mo organ, and touring comedy headliners such as John Oliver and Josh Johnson.
