Fox Theater Oakland

Built in 1928 as one of Oakland’s great movie palaces, the Fox Theater reopened in February 2009 after a $75 million restoration and is now operated by Another Planet Entertainment. The 2,800-capacity room on Telegraph Avenue kept its original domed interior — terra cotta tile, dizzyingly detailed paintings and the two gilded figures that flank the stage — and paired it with a state-of-the-art Meyer sound system, which is why touring artists keep naming it a favorite. The calendar is mostly touring music with a steady run of named standup; recent and upcoming bills include Ilana Glazer, Fortune Feimster, Ali Siddiq, Hasan Minhaj and Ronny Chieng alongside acts like Brandi Carlile, Primus and ScHoolboy Q. Most shows are all ages though some carry age restrictions, the venue is cashless, and ticket holders can upgrade into the Telegraph Room lounge or stop by The Den for food and drinks before doors.
