The Boch Center Shubert Theatre is the "Little Princess" of Boston's Theater District — a 1,500-seat historic house at 265 Tremont Street that opened on January 24, 1910 and has since run from Shakespeare and pre-Broadway tryouts (The King and I, South Pacific, Camelot) to Cats, Les Misérables and Jersey Boys, with Sarah Bernhardt, Mae West, Humphrey Bogart, Henry Fonda and Cary Grant among the names that have played it. Operated by the nonprofit Boch Center as the intimate counterpart to the 3,600-seat Wang Theatre across the street, the Shubert programs touring standup and comedy (Ali Siddiq, Bianca Del Rio, Foil Arms and Hog), singer-songwriter and jazz nights, dance and holiday productions, part of the 200-plus performances a year the two theatres present. Accessible seating and companion seats are available in the orchestra and sound-amplification devices are free at the house manager's podium; note that the Shubert has no elevator, though an accessible restroom sits off the main lobby.
