Opened in 1914 and designed by the Boston architect Clarence H. Blackall, The Wilbur is a Boston Landmark on Tremont Street in the Theater District — an unusually intimate room for its size, built before amplification so that even the farthest seat sits close to the stage. Bill Blumenreich, the former owner of the Comedy Connection, took over the theatre in 2008 and reintroduced it as the city's flagship room for stand-up, with live music and special events rounding out the calendar. It ranks among Pollstar's top five worldwide-selling clubs year after year and has hosted more than 35 comedy special tapings — a world record. Headliners on the current bill include Hannibal Buress, Maria Bamford, Kathy Griffin, Ilana Glazer, Fred Armisen, Brian Regan, Tim Dillon and Jessica Kirson.
