The Met Philadelphia

Opened in 1908 as Oscar Hammerstein I's Philadelphia opera house, The Met is a 3,500-seat Beaux-Arts theater at Broad and Poplar in North Philadelphia. The building spent the 20th century as a cinema, ballroom, sports hall and vaudeville stage before Reverend Leon H. Sullivan turned it into a church and community center in 1954; a $56 million restoration led by developer Eric Blumenfeld and Live Nation brought it back as a concert hall, reopening on December 3, 2018 with Bob Dylan. It is now Philadelphia's largest dedicated theater room for touring acts, with comedy headliners like Jerry Seinfeld, Chelsea Handler, Bert Kreischer, Daniel Sloss and Brett Goldstein sharing the calendar with concerts, film-in-concert nights and Broadway-scale productions. Most shows are all ages; the box office opens two hours before doors on show days.
