The Saenger Theatre is New Orleans' grand 2,700-seat touring house on Canal Street, one block from the French Quarter. Opened in 1927 as an atmospheric movie palace, its auditorium is styled as a 15th-century Italian courtyard under a starlit ceiling; after Hurricane Katrina flooded the building it was rebuilt in a $53 million restoration and reopened in 2013. It is the home of Broadway in New Orleans - Hamilton, Wicked and The Lion King have all played here - and the room the city's biggest touring concerts and comedy nights land in: the venue's own roll call of past performers runs from John Legend, Paul Simon, Arcade Fire and Bonnie Raitt to Jerry Seinfeld and Dave Chappelle, and current standup bookings include Ali Siddiq's Custom Fit Tour and a New Year's run from Mojo Brookzz and Desi Banks. Operated by ATG Entertainment; tickets are sold through the venue's own ATG box office.
