Dominion Energy Center is Richmond's downtown performing-arts campus, built around the fully restored Carpenter Theatre — a nearly 1,800-seat room that opened in 1928 and still carries John Eberson's midnight-sky ceiling, now lit with fiber-optic stars, above four mosaic-tiled refreshment bars and a parrot that has been perched in the lobby since opening night. The Richmond Performing Arts Alliance reopened the renovated theatre as Dominion Energy Center in 2009, expanding the footprint into Dorothy Pauley Square: the 200-seat Libby S. Gottwald Playhouse, a flexible black box on the second floor, and Bob & Sally Mooney Hall, a multi-purpose first-floor room that books local performers, concerts and stand-up comedians. It is the home stage of the Richmond Symphony, Virginia Opera, Richmond Ballet and the Richmond Forum, and the city's main room for touring comedy — Brad Williams, Michael Blaustein, Mojo Brookzz, Kathleen Madigan, Aries Spears, Bianca Del Rio, Charlie Berens and Amber Autry all play the Carpenter. The venue is cashless, fully wheelchair accessible, and tickets are sold through Etix.
