Altria Theater

Altria Theater is Richmond's grandest stage: a 3,565-seat landmark facing Monroe Park in the middle of VCU's campus, opened in 1927 as the Mosque Theater and still performing beneath its towering minarets and desert murals. City-owned since 1940 and restored in the mid-1990s, it hosts more than 100 performances a year — the Broadway in Richmond season, touring concerts, The Richmond Forum, family shows, commencements and the national standup tours that come through town. Nikki Glaser, Jeff Dunham, Taylor Tomlinson and Jeff Arcuri all sit on the current calendar, alongside Hamilton, Hell's Kitchen, Alice Cooper and Buena Vista Social Club. Billboard named it the #10 highest-grossing theatre worldwide in the 2,500-5,000 capacity class in 2024, and the room is known for its acoustics. A Grand Ballroom seating 800 handles galas and private events alongside the auditorium. Tickets are sold by the venue box office and Etix; the house is cashless and entirely non-smoking.
