Charleston Music Hall

Housed in the old Tower Depot — an 1850 South Carolina Railroad passenger station designed by Charleston architect Edward C. Jones — the Charleston Music Hall has been a downtown performance space since the building's 1995 restoration. The Gothic Revival hall sits at 37 John Street in the Garden District, just off Upper King, and seats around 959 with removable orchestra seating that opens the floor to roughly 1,200 for general-admission shows. Programming runs the full range of a mid-size room: touring rock, jazz, R&B and country, the SC Ballet's season, the annual Charleston Christmas Special, and a steady run of national stand-up — Kathleen Madigan, Mark Normand, Fred Armisen, Jordan Klepper, Brad Williams, Jeff Garlin and Aries Spears are all on the current calendar. Past acts include David Byrne and Joan Baez, and Ricky Skaggs won a Grammy for a live album recorded in the room. The venue is all ages unless a specific show is marked 18+ or 21+, is cashless, has accessible seating on the first floor, and is a KultureCity-certified sensory-inclusive venue.
