Warnors Theatre is downtown Fresno's historic main stage — a roughly 2,100-seat movie palace that opened in 1928 as the Pantages Theatre, designed by B. Marcus Priteca in an ornate blend of Spanish Colonial Revival, Moorish and Italian Renaissance styles. Warner Bros. acquired it a year later, and it has carried the Warnors name since the 1960s; local owner Frank Caglia saved it from demolition in the 1970s, it joined the federal, state and local historic registers in 1978, and it is now owned and operated by Warnors Center for the Performing Arts, a 501(c)(3) non-profit. The building also holds the Star Palace Ballroom and Frank's Place, and the theatre still has its original four-manual, 1,000-pipe Robert Morton organ installed in 1928 to accompany silent films. Billed as "the Central Valley's premiere historic venue," it books touring standup, concerts, film-in-concert nights and Broadway-style productions — names on the calendar include Tig Notaro, John Cleese, Juanes, 38 Special and The Psychedelic Furs.
