The Orange Peel is Asheville's flagship music hall, a 1,050-capacity general-admission room on Biltmore Avenue in the heart of downtown. Open since 2002 in a building that housed a Black social club and dance hall decades earlier, the Peel is a standing-room concert venue with a hardwood floor, a handful of stools around the perimeter, and a private bourbon speakeasy, PULP, downstairs. Most nights it books touring music, but it also runs a steady strand of seated comedy shows — recent and upcoming bills include Todd Barry, Jaboukie Young-White, Nurse Blake, Stephen Lynch, Randy Feltface, Atsuko Okatsuka and Marc Maron. Unless a show is billed as all ages, the door is 18+.
