The Lensic Performing Arts Center is Santa Fe's year-round home for the performing arts. The Spanish-Moorish theater opened on West San Francisco Street in 1931 as the city's grandest movie palace and vaudeville stage, and reopened in April 2001, after a community-led restoration, as a nonprofit 821-seat performing arts center. It is downtown Santa Fe's main stage: more than 200 performances a year of touring music, dance, theater, opera and film, lectures, youth showcases and comedy, programmed in-house as Lensic Presents and in partnership with resident companies including the Santa Fe Symphony, Santa Fe Pro Musica and Aspen Santa Fe Ballet. Touring standup and spoken-word headliners on the current season include Maria Bamford, Chris Fleming, Zoltan Kaszas, Trae Crowder and David Sedaris. The Lensic is New Mexico's largest performing arts education provider, reaching some 14,500 students a year, and extends its programming across the region as Lensic 360.
