The Keswick Theatre is a 1,300-seat historic theatre at 291 N Keswick Avenue in Glenside, just northwest of the Philadelphia city line. Designed by Horace Trumbauer (architect of the Philadelphia Museum of Art) and opened on Christmas night 1928 as a combination vaudeville and movie house, it was saved from demolition in 1980, placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 and reopened as a live venue in 1988; it has since been named to Pollstar's Top 50 Theater Venues and bills itself as the most comfortable, acoustically precise listening room in the Philadelphia market. Today it is an AEG Presents room whose calendar mixes national touring music, tribute acts and film events with regular big-room standup — Marc Maron, Kathy Griffin, Vic DiBitetto, Ryan Hamilton and Amber Autry are among the recent and upcoming headliners. Unless a show carries its own age limit, all ages are welcome (children over 24 months need a ticket); doors typically open one hour before showtime, walk-through metal detectors are in use at every event, and there are bars in the lobby and the Annex.
