The Florida Theatre is a 1,865-seat historic movie palace in downtown Jacksonville, opened in 1927 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places — famously the room where a municipal judge warned a young Elvis Presley not to swivel his hips in 1956. Now a nonprofit performing arts center run in partnership with the City of Jacksonville, it books touring standup alongside concerts, ballet, film-in-concert, family shows and screenings, and is consistently ranked by Pollstar and VenuesNow among the top theatres under 2,000 seats. Comedy nights here have included John Mulaney, Aries Spears, Jeff Arcuri, Matt Mathews, D.L. Hughley, Colin Mochrie & Brad Sherwood, Paula Poundstone and Todd Barry. There is a full bar and no minimum purchase, and anyone two and older needs a ticket.
