Opened in 1929 on the Upper West Side, the Beacon Theatre is a 2,894-seat landmark movie palace at 2124 Broadway and 74th Street — its gilded Greek-and-Roman-inspired interior is a designated New York City landmark and the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Operated by MSG Entertainment, the Beacon is one of Manhattan's premier rooms for touring standup and music: recent and upcoming calendars have featured Jerry Seinfeld, John Oliver & Seth Meyers, John Mulaney, Chelsea Handler, Aziz Ansari, Marc Maron and Ilana Glazer, and it serves as a primary house for the New York Comedy Festival. Note that the 1929 building has no public elevators.
