A Saratoga Springs institution that has been making Upstate New York laugh since 1981, The Comedy Works began in a basement space below founder Tom Nicchi's restaurant and was an immediate hit, with shows seven nights a week and comics like Robin Williams, Jerry Seinfeld, Denis Leary, and Chris Rock working its stage through the '80s and '90s. Now run by Tom's son Tommy from 388 Broadway in downtown Saratoga Springs, the club presents named headliners every Friday and Saturday in an intimate 100-seat cabaret-style showroom where no seat is more than 30 feet from the stage, plus a weekly Friday-night open mic — 52 weeks a year.
