Boardwalk Hall

Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall has anchored the Atlantic City Boardwalk since 1929, when it opened as Convention Hall beneath a 137-foot barrel-vaulted ceiling that was then the largest clear-span space in the world. A National Historic Landmark and the longtime home of the Miss America Pageant, the arena reopened in 2001 after a $90 million restoration and now seats up to 14,770 for touring concerts, championship boxing, family shows and arena-scale comedy — the Atlantic City Comedy Festival brings a two-night bill to the Boardwalk each fall, with names like Bruce Bruce, Sheryl Underwood, Tommy Davidson, Tony Rock, DeRay Davis, Lavell Crawford and Adele Givens. The adjoining Adrian Phillips Theater, on the concourse level at the same address, seats up to 3,200 for smaller shows.
