About

Using his experiences growing up in Newark, New Jersey, Bill Bellamy began performing stand-up comedy while attending Rutgers University. He quickly discovered his passion for making people laugh and began sharpening his skills at comedy clubs across the country, including legendary venues such as The Improv, The Comic Strip, and The Comedy Store in Los Angeles. Just two years later, Bellamy earned a spot on HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam,” where he famously coined the phrase “booty call.” The phrase later became the title of his first Showtime comedy special, “Booty Call,” which became one of the network’s highest-rated comedy specials. Following the success of the special, Bellamy became a major presence on MTV as one of the network’s first VJs. He hosted several popular programs, including “MTV Jams” and “MTV Beach House,” and interviewed some of the biggest names in entertainment, from Kurt Cobain to Janet Jackson. In 1996, he landed his own series, “The Bill Bellamy Show.” Bellamy continued building an impressive film and television career, starring in movies including “Love Jones,” “How to Be a Player,” “Love Stinks,” “The Brothers,” “Any Given Sunday,” and “The Bounce Back,” alongside Shemar Moore and Nadine Velazquez. His television credits include appearances on Tyler Perry’s “Meet the Browns,” “Castle,” “Royal Pains,” “White Collar,” and “Murder in the First.” He also hosted four seasons of TV One’s comedy competition series “Who’s Got Jokes?” and two seasons of NBC’s Emmy-nominated “Last Comic Standing.” Bellamy later starred in the sitcom “Mr. Box Office” alongside Jon Lovitz, Tim Meadows, and Vivica A. Fox. He has also appeared as a recurring co-host on “The Rachael Ray Show,” filled in as host on “Access Hollywood Live,” and hosted the ESPY Awards red carpet for “Entertainment Tonight.” While continuing to act and host, Bellamy returned to his first love—stand-up comedy. His Showtime specials include “Crazy Sexy Dirty” and “Ladies Night Out,” both of which became highly rated comedy specials. The “Ladies Night Out” tour continued across the country and featured comedians including Ali Siddiq, J. Reid, and D’Lai. Bellamy has also hosted “Shaq’s All Star Comedy Jam: I’m Still Laughing” and headlined the nationwide “Standing Ovation Tour” alongside Tommy Davidson, Sommore, Mark Curry, and Tony Rock. In 2015, he hosted the syndicated game show “Let’s Ask America.” In addition to performing throughout the United States, Bellamy has entertained American troops stationed in Japan and on U.S. Army bases in Texas and Alabama. In 2017, he joined the “Tom Joyner Morning Show” as a weekly co-host. With a career spanning stand-up comedy, film, television, radio, and hosting, Bill Bellamy remains one of entertainment’s most recognizable and versatile performers.
