He gained national recognition after winning SiriusXM Canada's Top Comic competition in 2010. In 2014, he was nominated for Best Breakout Artist at the 15th Canadian Comedy Awards. He has been a regular performer at comedy clubs including Yuk Yuk's and Comedy Bar, and has appeared on The Debaters , Video on Trial , and Cocktales . O'Brien is married to fellow comedian Julia Hladkowicz. In 2025, the couple faced off in a Season 5 episode of Roast Battle Canada , where they roasted each other, and later auditioned consecutively for the 20th season of America's Got Talent .
